**Honoring Our Founders**

🌟 **Honoring Our Founders** 🌟

In 1979, George Harper discovered the remarkable legacy of Marshall Walter "Major" Taylor, the first Black world champion cyclist in 1899. Inspired by Taylor's groundbreaking achievements, George suggested naming our club The Major Taylor Cycling Club. Along with seven other visionary founders, they laid the foundation for a community that has thrived for 45 years.

From a humble beginning in a basement, their vision has grown into a global movement, with 80 locations across the country and internationally, including Taiwan, Canada, and Kenya.

**Meet and Greet:**

📍 Derby Taproom, 505 Morrison Rd, Gahanna, OH

🕒 Tonight, 6 PM to 8 PM

Even if you're not riding tomorrow, come to the meet and greet to meet these incredible founders. Sit down and talk to them, listen to the story of their journey, and where they began. These are the moments we come together as a community to show our support and celebrate our legends and their legacies.

If you didn't know, at the Academy Park/Cleo Dumaree Athletic Complex (276 Nelson Rd, Columbus, OH), a plaque was dedicated to Major Taylor in 2010, unveiled by Mayor Michael Coleman. Many cyclists zoom past it, but it's worth taking a moment to slow down and read about the history. Four miles of the trail were dedicated to the Major Taylor Cycling Club.

In our cycling community, you may see different jerseys, but if you look beyond the gear, you'll recognize the same faces. We all share the same passion for cycling and the love of the ride.

If you're ever in the park, take a picture by the bench and use #MTCC1979.

Let's celebrate the legacy of our founders and the incredible journey we've shared. 🚴‍♂️🚴‍♀️
